Will Remodeling your Kitchen Increase Home Value?

Updated: Sep 21

You are probably wondering what the increase will be for your Massachusetts home value if you undertake a kitchen remodeling project. Since there is a great variation in cost depending on what you decide to include, the main reason should be for you and your family to enjoy the renovations, appreciate being able to enjoy much more pleasurable time congregating and cooking in the kitchen, and not concentrate only on how the resale value will go up if and when you decide to sell.

Even if you cannot usually recoup the full amount of the money that you have put into the kitchen, you will get a good amount of it back when selling your home. There are ways to economize and still have a modern and beautiful kitchen to offer to prospective buyers.

Some of those ideas include the following:

Cabinet Refacing

An alternative way to turn old-looking and worn kitchens into an outstanding improvement.  This is accomplished without having the high cost, and time that must be devoted to existing kitchens that are torn out and the layout changed, and the inconveniences and disruptions that would be created. Adding an island or other new cabinets could further enhance the area, blend in nicely, and make more working and storage space. The kitchen is transformed because the old drawers, doors, hardware, etc. are removed. Any needed repairs and modifications are made to your cabinet.  New drawer fronts, doors, moldings, and more are installed according to the design plan, and you can choose from a large selection that includes beautiful and durable finishes. The cabinets can be repainted or stained if they are still in good condition, which is a cost-effective and easy solution to bringing them up to date. The doors and hardware must be removed, everything must be cleaned so that paint will go on nicely, and they must be primed. To stain, the doors must come off, everything must be sanded, and then gone over with a conditioner and two coats of stain.

Countertops

Countertops come in many options that range greatly in price, style, materials, upkeep, and durability. Each type has unique characteristics. You don't have to have the most expensive materials to have an outstanding new look. You can expect to spend 10 to 15 percent of your budget on countertops and their installation.

Backsplash

A backsplash on a portion of a wall or the entire wall between the cabinets and the countertops can provide an elegant, timeless, dramatic, bright, and clean aspect to the kitchen. With a floral or another noticeable pattern, a simple tile, ceramic, or stone backsplash will add a focal point that has style and charm. Although the main purpose of the backsplash is to protect the wall from splashes and liquids, it also presents additional decor for your cooking area.

New Lighting

Adding lighting fixtures can make a huge difference. That update will be one of the first things that will be seen, and if it is modern and attractive, that adds a lot to the value and usefulness of the space. And you wouldn't even have to get all new wiring if you are able to swap out with what is already there.

Kitchen remodeling will indeed increase a Massachusetts home's value because the kitchen is often the most important room in a house that buyers are contemplating purchasing. A modern and updated kitchen is extremely appealing, and purchasers appreciate that they will not have to spend all the additional necessary money to do the job themselves.

Summary

Even if you cannot usually recoup the full amount of the money that you have put into the kitchen, you will get a good amount of it back when selling your home. There are ways to economize and still have a modern and beautiful kitchen to offer to prospective buyers.
